The Orchid Show: Cuba in Flower is an oasis of beauty, fragrance, and the intrigue of the tropical island nation. Cuban-born, Palm Beach-based designer Jorge Sánchez has re-created the charm of the city of Havana, infused with Caribbean rhythm and romance.

The brides were guests at all four weddings, judged and scored each one, then the winning bride and groom won their dream honeymoon!

North Jersey Chapter Holds Print Critique Night

Three (3) outstanding NJ Photographers will be judging on Print Critique night, Feb 17, 2010 at Unique University in Fairfield, NJ (complete bios in earlier blogs).

David Derex

Tony earned his Master’s Degree in 1993 and Craftsman Degree in 1995. In 2001 he received the coveted Fellowship from the American Society of Photographers shared by only 77 living photographers in the world.

In 1992 Tab became a Certified Professional Photographer. (CPP) In 2002 Tab has achieved the degree of Photographic Craftsman. This degree is for helping educate other photographers. He has been an educator for over 10 years.

Currently the President of PPANJ North Region, David is a Certified Professional Photographer, Associate Fellow of Photography (PPANJ), and holds both Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees.

Maddaloni Joins Derex and Morgan as Respected Print Judges at 2/17/10 Meeting


The complete bios of our esteemed judges, David Derex, current PPANJ/North Region President and Tab Morgan, Past President 2007-08 are in earlier posts.

They will be joined by Anthony P. Maddaloni, Master Photographer and Fellow – American Society of Photographers. A graduate of Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut, he began photographing and working in the darkroom during his fifteen-year employment as an engineer for a major chemical company. In 1981, Tony opened his photography studio; Sunset Photographers in Nutley, New Jersey specializing in portraits, weddings and environmental photography.

Tony earned his Master’s Degree in 1993 and a Craftsman Degree in 1995 from the Professional Photographers of America. In 2001 he received the coveted Fellowship from the American Society of Photographers. The Fellow is the highest earned award that can be attained in professional photography and is shared by only 77 living photographers in the world.

Maddaloni’s images have won countless awards including numerous Loan Collection prints, with seven images selected into the American Society of Photographers Master Traveling Loan collection. His work has been displayed at Epcot Center in Florida four times. He has won three Kodak Gallery Awards and an Arthritis Foundation Award as well as many state and regional awards including the Fassbender Award from the Professional Photographers Association of New Jersey in 1990 and 1996. This award is given to the photographer who has submitted the photograph judged as Best in Show at the Association’s annual convention.

Also, five of his prints have been selected for the PPANJ’s Mallas Award, which is presented for the Best Pictorial submitted in their annual competition. In 2001 he was bestowed the title of New Jersey Professional Photographer of the year by the PPANJ. In 2002 Fuji Photo Film, USA honored Anthony for his Photographic Excellence with the ASP Regional Medallion Award.

Currently Maddaloni is a member of the Professional Photographers of America, the American Society of Photographers, the Professional Photographers Association of New Jersey and the Professional Photographers Association of New England.

Tobias "Tab" Morgan, Respected Educator, Will Judge Prints at 2/17/10 Meeting


CPP, Photographic Craftsman, Master of Photography

Tobias (Tab) Morgan is the owner of Tobias Morgan Studios in Verona, NJ. In 1988, Tab started his professional career in wedding photography working from his home studio.

He soon joined the Professional Photographers Association of NJ (PPANJ) and also the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). These organizations opened up to him a world of extremely talented photographers. He started his studies with Internationally acclaimed wedding photographer Monte Zucker (known for his classical elegant formal portraiture). Tobias studied with him two weeks a year, for five years straight. Since then Tab has studied with many other accomplished photographers learning all types of photography from families to children to the newest type of wedding photojournalism.

Tab has won many first place blue ribbon awards at local and national levels. Other honors and distinctions include the prestigious Kodak Gallery award. Only four of these awards are given out each year at the state convention, and Tobias won one out of hundreds of photographers in NJ (four times). He also won the Professional Photographers Association of NJ’s Court of Honor Award. There are only four of these given out each year, as well.

From social documentary to fashion and glamour, interpretive portraiture, and fine art, David Derex has enjoyed a dynamic and multifaceted career. David is a leader in the photographic field, continually developing new and innovative artistic styles.
An exhibiting artist, Derex is a respected international lecturer and writer on the subject of fine photography. He is also the author of Studio Portrait Photography in Black & White (Amherst Media).

His photographs and paintings grace the covers and pages of many national publications, such as Professional Photographer, Soap Opera Digest, Vogue, and more. Many of his photographs have been accepted into international print exhibitions, and his world-class salon images are published in prestigious coffee table art books.

Currently the President of PPANJ North Region, David is a Certified Professional Photographer, Associate Fellow of Photography (PPANJ), and holds both Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees.
